Course Descriptions

Intro to Sound:

3 hour intensive, combining 1.5 hours of lecture based instruction, and 1.5 hours of practice on your sound board.  Topics covered include signal flow, microphone technique, selection and placement, cable selection, PA setup (if needed), mixing basics, event workflow and EQ.

Advanced Sound:

3-hour intensive, combining 1.5 hours of lecture and 1.5 hours of practical experience.  Topics typically include advanced mic techniques (including drum mic setup), EQ, compression, effects, gating, and communication skills.

Active Listening: 

1.5 hour seminar that can be used as a team-building exercise for both your tech team and band members.  This exploration of dynamics is designed to teach each student how to hear individual aspects of a given recording.  Students will listen for harmonies, instrumentation, dynamic changes, and explore how those relate to lyrical content.  Last, students will discover how learning to listen can improve and expand  their creativity (musically or in the tech arts).
